Rug Art Lavé

The process of the Art Lavé rug contains a lot of colour work. Different colours are used that all require different ways of painting them by mixing and using organic herbs. Before dyeing the strings they are all separated from each other on baskets. Before starting on a rug, a plan is made to measure the space of every single field within the carpet. The final design mostly comes from the imagination of three different women. When they work together communication is essential so they can carry out the plan that they’ve made together inch by inch. After the rug is created they one last step. Washing the rugs with water and hitting the rugs with wooden sticks. Now they can leave the rugs to dry in the sun so the colours can start to develop. The intensity of the colours depends on the exposure time. Aicha, Fatima and Samira worked together on the design and process of the Rug Art Lavé.
